Memorial Day Wreath

I love to spruce up a wreath with some temporary art.
It just makes sense to me. Why have a wreath for each holiday when you can just add a little embellishment to your existing one.

Here is what I did:
I bought a roll of brown packing paper, because I think it is a cute way to wrap presents and now, make wreaths :)
Cut out a few sheets at 8.5x11 and sent them through my printer to print out Happy Memorial Day letters and stars.
I have a scallop punch that I used to punch out each letter.
I hand cut out the stars. Go to my clipart section to download the stars that I used.

This is so simple, all I did was tape the letters and stars to some string.
Then, get a push pin and tie a know around the pin and stick it into the wreath....works with foam at least. Maybe try a clip is you have a wooden wreath of something else.

Hope you all are having a fabulous Memorial Day. This post is dedicated to my brave husband! And of course all of my family who served and supports the military.

Memorial Day Prints

Happy Memorial Prints

Memorial Day is on Monday, May 28, 2012. One week from today. Here are some Memorial Day Prints for you to enjoy during this Patriotic season. We also have Flag Day and Independence Day just around the corner.
I know that I will be remembering the fallen, as well as those who have served and who are serving. My husband is a Marine. During his last deployment his unit lost two great men. The Battalion as a whole lost seven men, if I am remembering correctly. I'm so grateful to have my husband safe at home. We will always remember those that we have lost.

Also, check out my most recent post for this weeks GIVEAWAY!

Baby Room Print

I love this Baby Room Print that I created with the

 baby bedding!

My sister passed on her crib bedding to me and I absolutely love love love it! Well, I wanted to customize our babies room so I took my fabric to the local print shop.  At the time, I worked there so I was able to do this all on my own. But, I do know that most places will do this for you, although I don't know for how much.

I scanned the fabric in at 300 dpi, full color as a .tiff file.
Then I placed the files into Adobe Illustrator.
For the border I created a rectangle, placed it over the design, selected both items, right-clicked and chose Make Clipping Mask.
That is how you get the image to show through a design.
For the letters, you have to write out the word, then go to Text and select Outline Text.
Then you can select the words and the image, right-click, and select Make Clipping Mask.
Pretty easy huh!

This ends my "All Things Baby Week". I hope you have enjoyed as much as I have :)

Homemaker to Domainer?

Which name do you prefer to describe what you do for your family each day? Homemaker or Domainer?

I was watching Studio 5 today. My favorite day time show...next to Ellen :) Today there was guest talking about how "homemaker" is outdated. And that Domaining is a much more update to date, appropriate name.
I don't know how I feel about this?
Picture from graphicsfairy.blogpsot.com
Homemaking to me, say that I take care of home. I have turned a house into a home full of love and comfort.
Domaining - Thesaurus says that it means area of expertise, rule

I like the way that sounds.
I have to be honest when I first heard this term, I thought of a web site. Once, it was explained in more detail I understood where the person was coming from.
I think Domaining pretty much means the same thing as homemaker, but just that it's a more modern, update to date name.

Personally, I think I like Ruler of the Home!  :)
Why don't you weigh in and let me know what you think.

Baby Shower Announcement

To continue on with my baby theme this week I am posting this baby shower clothes line announcement that I created for my cousin and I. We had a combined family shower. It was so much fun to share that day with her.
These cards I have created are 5x7. I took mine to Alphagraphics to get printed on 100lb matte paper. They were beautiful. The files to download will not have any wording on them. You can look at the picture that I have posted for ideas on how to word yours if you would like.

Stork Baby Arrival

Babies just scream spring!

I hope you all had a great Mother's Day! My was good. I realized fairly early in the day that I was going to have to tell my husband what I expect from him so that I didn't wind up disappointed at the end of day! But, besides that it was an enjoyable day, full of Honey do this and honey do that :) haha. It was great!
Now that Mother's Day has past and Spring is in the air I decided to post some baby images today.
I created these girl and boy Storks when I was pregnant with my little girl. I just adore them, and I hope you do as well. These are great for bedroom decorating, baby showers, and gift cards.

Remember:
I love posting my creations, but I do ask that you

Last Week Till Mother's Day!

Wow, this is the last week to get our projects and shopping done. And if any of you are like me, you haven't even started yet! I will be today though. I have to get my presents in the mail so they are not late! yikes!

About 3 weeks ago I started making this adorable wreath with my friend Kim. After I left her house I got busy, and forgot about it for a short while. But, alas! I have finished it and I must say it is quite cute! Plus, it brings more sunshine and warmth to my quaint little home.

However, my husband looked at my wreath and said, "It's Done?".
I laughed and said yes. "Does it not look done to you?"
Justin: "I just haven't seen a wreath that doesn't have flowers ALL the way around it before."
My response, "This is the new style babe!, get with the times!" lol.

When I wrote about making a wreath on facebook my brother, Todd said that wreaths are for Christmas! Why would you make one in May???

SILLY BOYS!

I got these cute flowers from a blog called The Crafted Sparrow.
They remind me of dandelions...even though those are weeds! I still love them on my wreath.

This project really is simple. The only thing that took a while is wrapping the wreath with the yarn.
Since I am not a perfectionist, I really didn't mind that the yarn wasn't perfectly placed. However, I do think that could have been avoidable if I bought a circular wreath. Mine, as you can see in the pictures is flat.

What you will need:
  • A wreath. (I went to Hobby Lobby and used a 40% off coupon for this. Click on the link for your too!
  • Yarn
  • Felt
  • Hot Glue Gun

Home is Where Your Mother is

Good Morning Everybody!
I can't believe it is already FRIDAY! And Mother's day is next Sunday. Wow!
I'm excited that this will be my first Mother's Day. I have already informed my husband that it better be a good one, since it will be my first and I will NEVER forget it. lol. Let's be honest, if I don't tell him what I expect, I ain't gonna get it.  :)
Well, here is Free Printable #3 for Mother's Day. It's an 8x10 print of a quote for your mom. I drew inspiration from this fabulous blog called Holiday Snob. Click on their name to see how they created their version of this quote.

Family Tree

Mother's Day Idea # 2
I found this on Pinterest. From a cute blog called Naptime Decorator. I also believe it is on here on Etsy
If you know how to sew that this would be a great project!
But, as you are aware, I am sure, I do not own a sewing machine. So, once again I went to the computer to see what creation I could come up with.

Here is what I created in Illustrator for my Mom.
Now I realize that there isn't a tutorial on how to do this. If you have own an Adobe type program, I bet you already know how to copy what I made :)

For those of you who do that have that capability I have two suggestions.
1) You can always email me at scobellexpressions@gmail.com and I will gladly recreate this design with your family names on it for $15 for 20 names.
If you have more names than that email me the quantity and I will give you the price.

2) I think this is great at home project, especially if you have kids. Draw the tree! Let the kids color int he leaves and make it a family activity.

Here is my design.
I decided to add a "to be continued" next to the heart since we are an ever growing family :)
